LA Galaxy have made a “new offer” to lure Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic away from Old Trafford, according to reports.

The MLS club are planning on making the 35-year-old Swede the highest paid player in the league’s history, according to reports in the US.

Ibrahimovic’s contract is up at the end of the season and he is believed to be chasing a two-year extension wit United believed to be willing to offer the former PSG man just a 12-month extension.

The Galaxy, who recently lost Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane, have been linked to Ibrahimovic before and did speak to the player before he made the move to United last summer.

Now though Sports Illustrated journalist Grant Wahl suggests “multiple sources” believe a prospective deal is back on and “sources say that LA thinks it has a realistic shot of landing him”.

The Galaxy’s three ‘designated player’ roles are currently occupied by Giovani Dos Santos, Jelle Van Damme and Romain Alessandrini. But the Californian club could “buy down the budget charge of one of the three using targeted allocation money” which would then allow them to offer Ibrahimovic a designated player spot.

Ibrahimovic, who has scored 26 goals this season, is set to feature for United against Rostov in the Europa League on Thursday night, but will serve a three-game domestic ban for an elbow on Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings.
